In June 2017, Boston Out-Patient Surgical Suites performed the first total joint replacement surgery in a Massachusetts free-standing ambulatory surgery center. The outpatient environment allowed the knee replacement patient to return to her home later in the day and receive ongoing support from a dedicated team of home healthcare professionals and physical therapists.

More and more outpatient total joint replacements are being performed throughout the country. In addition to cost savings, data indicates that patients experience lower rates of infection and higher overall satisfaction. In this presentation, you’ll hear about the steps taken by Boston Out-Patient Surgical Suites to develop a successful outpatient joint program.

Learn about:

  • Elements of a clinical pathway surrounding outpatient joints
  • Patient selection criteria
  • Key elements of efficiency
  • Tactics for negotiations with insurers
  • Tactics for negotiations with vendors

About the Speaker:
Greg_WebinarGregory P. DeConciliis has been a Physician Assistant in Orthopedics since 1999 at New England Baptist Hospital. In May 2004, he left the Hospital to start up Boston Out-Patient Surgical Suites in Waltham, MA, an orthopedic and pain management ASC. The surgery center is jointly owned by local surgeons, AMSURG, the largest ASC surgery provider in the United States, and Atrius Health, an innovative nonprofit healthcare leader in eastern and central Massachusetts. BOSS, as the center is known, has completed over 55,000, and averages over 500 cases per month. They see profit margins consistently over 50% while maintaining patient satisfaction scores rated as “excellent” in over 98% of patients since opening its doors. Since 2012, Greg has also overseen Eastern Massachusetts Surgery Center, a multi-specialty ASC in Norwood, MA. Greg has been named numerous times one of Becker’s ASC Review’s Top Administrators to Know. He continues to be active as a Physician Assistant, still scrubbing in on complex cases each week.
